After School Classical Drawing and Painting

Walton Avenue Atelier (WAA) encourages students to begin a study of Classical drawing and painting by copying from modeles, a French term translating into 'good examples to copy.' In this regard, WAA is rooted in observation of nature as well as in a longstanding tradition of representational art. WAA introduces students to Classical methods of representation and to a discussion on taste with the use of Bargue plates. It is known that Vincent Van Gogh copied the drawing course by Charles Bargue in its entirety, several times. Picasso also copied from Bargue plates at the Barcelóna Academy. After these copies are satisfactorily made and understood, students move on to drawing from cast sculptures, then to still lifes and live models.

Classes are held Monday through Thursday, from 3:30-5:30. Classes space is limited. Cost is $800 per semester. Click here to enroll.
